We had a beautiful day to walk around Heritage Hill State Park. Here are some of the highlights!
-The print shop: The only way to get news back then was through a weekly paper and word of mouth. It took the whole week to produce the paper and you had to pick it up yourself...no paper boys!
-The blacksmith: We were able to help him stoke the fire! It was a lot of work to keep the fire going so he could heat up the metal to make tools!
-Our school lesson: We always lined up to go into buildings by girls and boys. The girls always went first. In class, we had to stand and say, "Yes, m'am" before we could respond to any question.
-Two of the punishments we learned about were having to hold a log out in front of you and having to hold a piece of chalk against the wall with the tip of your nose! Mason could tell you that that wasn't easy!
-Anytime you had to go to the bathroom, you either had to use a chamber pot or go outside to the outhouse...we could fit our whole class in the outhouse!
-Hospitals were nothing like they are today!
