Heritage Hill

What a beautiful day we had at Heritage Hill.
We were able to get our lesson in the school. The students learned that it was MUCH more strict back then. The ladies sure loved walking ladies first everywhere though!

We were also able to experience the Belgian farm, where there bathtub hangs on the wall in the kitchen! Oldest first gets to take a bath on Saturday nights!

Another stop was Fort Howard. The students found out all sorts of different reasons that soldiers would end up in jail. We popped over to the hospital. Man, were the students glad that they didn't live back then! The way they treated sick people, was definitely not up to our standards nowadays. From there we stopped at the print shop and visited the blacksmith. We even got into Tank Cottage, which used to sit right on the Fox River. This was a very fancy cottage that used to be a part of the fur trade.

I hope your child came home last night and shared their 3 favorite parts of the trip or 3 things that they learned!

Here are some photos from our day.

Welcome to Our Colonies!

Our third graders are working so hard learning about the original 13 colonies. Students were broken up into groups of 2 and given one of the 13 colonies. They have been reading about their colony in reading while also reviewing our informational text features. Students are now creating a persuasive poster trying to get people to move to their colony!

Here is my sample poster and the letter every "colonist" received!

Have your child take you into their google classroom account in order to see their poster! They are creating them in google slides and man, I'm impressed with how tech savvy they all are! I can't wait to see the finished products!
