It's that time of year again!!!
MARCH MADNESS....or should I say, Fairy Tale Madness!
We are in our Traditional literature unit reading a ton of great fairy tales and fractured fairy tales. We will be voting on these 16 fairy tales until we narrow it down to the top fairy tale!
During this time, the class will have the chance to use a green screen and create a short book talk or ad for their fairy tale in order to convince others to choose their book! Some of these book talks will be shown on the morning announcements!
Stay posted for more updates on our winning tales!

Chemists in the Making
We are busy with our Chemistry unit. The class has lab partners and each group is performing different experiments on each of their 5 different mystery chemicals. So far, we have done a water drop test, a water mixture and filtering test, a vinegar test, and today we performed our iodine experiment.
The class is having a blast observing what happens with each of our chemicals. By the end of the unit, we will have enough observations and clues in order to be able to reveal the identity of our 5 mystery chemicals!

Hour of Code!
The Hour of Code is being held this week worldwide. The goal is to have every student participate in an hour of coding sometime during the week. In years past, over 400,000,000 students have participated in over 180 countries. Today we were 24 of those students who participated! Check out these videos to see WHY we participated and check out the photos to see your child having a blast! I think we have some future computer programmers on our hands!

Snowman Multiplication!
We had a fun math activity today after our 2 days of testing. We read the story, Snowmen At Night. And then we worked on our multiplication facts for 2s, 4s, and 8s. Every snowman needed to have 2 eyes, 4 buttons, and 8 pieces of coal for the mouth. When the students partnered up, they had to pick a card to see how many snowmen they needed to draw on their paper.

Flowers For Kids
Today I had Enchanted Florist come in to do a Flowers for Kids lesson. Kristine, from Enchanted Florist, taught the class about different types of flowers. They learned that roses have thorns to protect themselves from animals, but also to store water. They learned about how to care for flowers. Did you know that there is a 5 second rule with flowers too? As soon as a flower is cut, you need to get it in water before the bottom dries up to protect the flower. They also learned about the art of bouquet making. First you have a filler, then you get a line or two to make your bouquet tall. After that, you grab a focal flower and finish it off with some greens. The class even learned how to make flower food! There are 3 ingredients including water....see if they remember the other 2!
