Projects Galore!

In math class, we are wrapping up our zoo project. The students were broken up into small groups and presented with a proposal. Mr. Safari requested that each follow a list of requirements and create a unique blue print of a zoo. They needed to not only plan where to put various animals, restaurants, bathrooms, and gift shops, but they also needed to calculate the area and perimeter of each item in their zoo. The groups worked cooperatively in order to accomplish this goal. They had to keep in mind the size of the animals, because you wouldn't want an elephant in a smaller cage than an alligator!

We have also been very technologically savvy! The class just wrapped up writing their persuasive speeches about why their person should be in the Famous Person Museum. They were working on these in a google slide presentation. They even practiced citing their sources using ABC format (Author. Book title. Copyright.)
Now they are creating their portrait of their historical person. They have gotten so creative with these portraits, I cannot wait for you to see them!
We are practicing giving our speeches in class, but tomorrow will be the last day dedicated to doing that. Please have your child login to their google drive account at home so that they can practice their speech. They are giving their speeches with their groups and have split up the speaking. Some of my teaching points have been: rate of speech, volume, and making eye contact with the audience.

We are a Masterpiece!

Today in math we related area to our bodies, more specifically our hands! We traced our hands onto graph paper and cut them out and then counted the squares that our hands took up. We found out how large our hands are in square centimeters. We then put the data into a spreadsheet to compare hand sizes with our classmates! You can see our data by clicking the link below!

Our Class graph of hand sizes

As an entire third grade, we colored our hands and created a flower for the hallway. It turned out awesome! It says: We are all unique and beautiful, but together we are a MASTERPIECE! :)

Balance a Checkbook? No problem!

Today we had our third Junior Achievement lesson. The class is amazing me with how much they know about forms of money and how banks work! Today they learned how to balance their checkbook. After hearing some of their comments like: "Oh man, I only have $100 left!" I think they have more appreciation for you and the money you spend on a daily basis!

On Friday we were also the proud owners of the Lombardi Trophy. This trophy is traveling from room to room before the Knowledg-a-thon and we were so excited to have it in our room on Friday. We did a little extra practice of our weekly questions! Make sure you are reviewing those at home! Our test date is March 17th!

Monday was another exciting day! We were celebrating Dr. Seuss. We had drop everything and read at the end of the day! We were able to read some of our favorite Dr. Seuss books. Take a look below at the class enjoying their DEAR time and also wearing their crazy hats and socks!
